The biggest project to date has been the creation of a Community Garden in 2022 named the Back Garden after a prominent local family. A derelict skate park behind the Village Hall was transformed into a delightful area with raised beds, fruit trees and seating. The abandoned pergola, planters and notice boards from the old Woodside First School in Firs Road were dismantled, renovated and relocated to the Back Garden. It is an area for the Community to relax in and to tend the vegetable, flower and herb beds. The aim is for the garden to be chemical-free and any purchases are from sustainable sources.
Refreshments are provided. The garden is always open.
Enthusiastic pupils from Woodside Junior School attend weekly to help.
An area of land owned by the Parish Council (next to Tesco) has been named Finnbar’s Meadow in memory of a local little boy who tragically died of a brain tumour. This area is maintained by HEAT volunteers. We were fortunate to be donated a beautiful handmade seed swap box which is situated on Finnbar’s Meadow behind the war commemorative seat.
